Snippets from Los Olivos

Every time I visit Los Olivos, I fall in love with it a little bit more. It’s teeny, tiny but perfect. I’ve written about this lovely small town before, but wanted to share a few previously unpublished snippets from one of our weekend getaways last year. 20140103-115836.jpgJWoeste is one of my all-time favorite garden supply shops. Always inspiring and friendly. They also have a nice selection of gifts and cards inside the shop, but really, walking through the magical little garden space is a perfect escape. 20140103-115855.jpgEven their post office is charming. The Mattei’s Inn recently opened up after a long renovation and I’m looking forward to trying it out on our next visit. 20140103-115913.jpg

20140103-115930.jpgThere are quite a few wine-tasting rooms to try, especially for a such a tiny little town. Remember the movie Sideways? 20140103-115947.jpgIt was our second time returning to Los Olivos Wine Merchants and it was delicious. Again. I also had the best Eggs Benedict ever, sitting on the beautiful front porch of the Fess Parker Inn. 20140103-115957.jpgIf you haven’t been, Los Olivos just the right size to spend a day strolling the shops, wine-tasting, and enjoying a delicious meal followed by a cupcake for dessert. I’m ready to go back. Some trips we only have time for a little stroll and dinner. Oh, and some cupcakes. And wine. One of my favorite things to do here is to visit Sarloos & Sons wine tasting room. It’s hands-down the most fun I’ve ever had wine tasting. They are just super friendly, not snooty, the whole family and staff is good-looking, (how’d they do that?) and they make you feel like you’ve been invited to a great party. They also pair their wine with the cutest, yummiest cupcakes, and it’s to die for. For reals. Try it. You can’t miss it. It’s the building with the vintage camper outside.
I got to eat dinner twice at the Wine Merchant & Cafe, once with my girlfriends and once with my husband. Lucky me. I also discovered Clairmont Farms Lavender. Of course, there are lots more wonderful tasting rooms and shops, but if I write about them now, I won’t have an excuse to go back…

Hi! I'm Nuvea. I live in Southern California with my husband, three horses, four dogs and one cat, but can frequently be found restoring our tiny stone cottage and olive grove in Portugal.
